Jessica Rysyk is a Toronto-based mixed media artist, specializing in resin as an artist medium. Rysyk uses semiotics through object-making to express her concerns on modern world-systems. She explores concepts of decay and preservation within ecosystems and environments. Replicating processes and materials are critical to the fabrication and installation of her works. Rysyk often incorporates resin in her artworks due to its ability to mimic other materials, suspend selected objects within a transparent state, and to achieve a minimal aesthetic. Jessica communicates humankind’s relationships with the environment and mass-consumption through object-based metaphors.
Rysyk received a Bachelors of Fine Art in 2017 for the Sculpture and Installation program at OCAD University, and a certificate in Art and Design in 2011 at Georgian College. Outside of her personal art practice, she works as a freelance artist in set production for film and TV, and holds a position teaching art classes to children and adults.
